Police are investigating after gunshots were heard and a man was assaulted in the Christchurch suburb of Addington in early today.
The incident followed a party in Spencer St. Police were called due to a noise complaint about 9.30pm.
"The party was closed down and one person was arrested for obstruction and resisting arrest.
"Around 3am police received reports of gunshots in the area of Spencer St, Addington."
Police arrived at the scene to find a 21-year-old man had been assaulted. He was treated by ambulance officers and taken to hospital, but has since been discharged.
Police found shell casings from a firearm at the scene, but no evidence of any person having been shot.
A section of Fielding St, between Spencer and Parlane Sts, has been closed so a scene examination can be done.
