A 38-year-old man will appear in court today after allegedly pointing a high-powered laser at planes arriving at Christchurch airport.
Police were alerted by air traffic control to a green laser being pointed at a commercial flight from Sydney around 12.40am.
It was also shone at a local commercial aircraft and the air traffic control tower.
The light was seen coming from near Sugar Loaf on the Port Hills.
Police located a car in the area and found a laser pointer inside the vehicle.
The man is charged with two counts of endangering public transport was due to appear in Christchurch District Court.
