A late-night attack on two people in downtown Wellington left one man with serious injuries, and police want the public's help in tracking down the assailants.
The victim was walking with a friend past Reading Cinemas, Courtenay Place, when "an unknown group of males" jumped him, knocking him to the ground and seriously assaulting him, police said in a statement.
"The victim suffered significant facial injuries and needed surgery to repair his broken jaw as a result of the assault. Police would like to speak with two males captured on CCTV in the area at the time in connection with the assault."
People with information about the incident were asked to phone Constable Oliver Crellin at Wellington Police on (04) 381 2000, or alternatively, to provide information anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
One of the men police wish to speak with appeared to be wearing a red Alice band or similar accessory, white shirt, and black trousers. The other had red shoes and a black hoodie in the CCTV footage.
