Four teenagers who allegedly fled police through South Auckland in a stolen car and filmed their getaway at the weekend have been arrested.
Police said today that the allegedly stolen car was eventually stopped near Mercer, police said.
Four female teenagers aged between 15 and 17 have been arrested and are facing a number of charges relating to the theft of the vehicle and failing to stop for police.
Counties Manukau south area prevention manager Inspector Mark Rowbottom said it was "incredibly concerning" to see an increasing number of youths stealing vehicles.
"When drivers fail to stop and challenge police at dangerous speeds, they are putting not only themselves but members of the public in real danger," he said.
"These youth decide to take the vehicle, they decide not to stop for police but they have no comprehension of the consequences and it is not until they seriously injure or kill a passenger in their vehicle or an innocent member of the public that they realise what they are doing is no joke."
