A 29-year-old man will appear in the Auckland District Court tomorrow on several charges in relation to last Saturday night's alleged assaults of an Onehunga couple.
The victims were notified of this afternoon's arrest, police said.
The man was charged with two counts of injuring with intent to injure, two of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, two of intentional damage and one count of burglary.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Newman said he was proud of the work his staff did over the past week, pleased to be able to advise the victims of today's development and thankful to all those who assisted the investigation.
Yesterday an 18-year-old man was also arrested in relation to the incident.
The Otahuhu teenager will appear in Manukau District Court on Tuesday charged with unlawfully taking a vehicle.
The couple were attacked in the driveway of their home on Mt Smart Road.
Their Toyota Vitz was stolen and later used to ram another vehicle with a family inside.
The wife pulled into the driveway and was approached and verbally abused by a man.
The noise attracted her husband's attention, and when he came outside the attacker beat him unconscious.
He then attacked his wife and she too was knocked unconscious, police said.
The couple were taken to hospital and left with severely bruised faces and significant jaw injuries.
They are currently recovering at home.
