More international cricket matches could be on the cards for Dunedin.
A campaign headed by Otago Cricket has been launched to install lighting at the University of Otago Oval for the 2015/16 season.
Otago Cricket commercial manager Craig Cumming says the campaign will ensure Dunedin doesn't miss out on opportunities in the future.
"We've got a world renowned university here, we've got a world renowned polytech here.
"It's an opportunity to showcase Dunedin in a really positive light to a very wide range, a big audience."
Cumming says the development would provide a big boost.
"You can sell those grounds out, you can get a great atmosphere, the players love playing in front of them and it looks great on TV."
The former New Zealand cricketer says Otago Cricket plans to raise half of the $2 million needed for the lights, with Dunedin City Council contributing the other half.
"Otago Cricket believe we also have a duty to recognise that we need to be involved with the costs and we believe we can raise a million dollars."
