Increased public transport services are planned to cater for cricket fans heading to the Takutai Square fanzone in downtown Auckland tomorrow.
The fanzone has been operating near Britomart in the central business district since the Cricket World Cup began, and is expected to be packed when the Black Caps battle Australia in the tournament's highly anticipated final in Melbourne.
The fanzone has been expanded to cater for up to 3,000 people when the first ball is bowled at 4.30pm (NZT).
Auckland Transport has put on extra services, including:
• Northern Express bus service to the North Shore will depart after the last scheduled service at 10pm every 15 minutes from 10.15pm to 1.30am. The service departs outside Britomart.
• There will be limited bus shuttle services to railway stations along the Eastern, Southern, Western and Onehunga Lines between 11pm and 1.30am. They leave from Lower Queen Street approximately every 30 minutes.
• There will be additional Devonport ferry services between 10pm and 12.30am from Downtown to Devonport, on demand.
All other public transport services will finish as scheduled. Public transport messaging will take place during the match on the Fanzone screens reminding people of the last scheduled services from the central business district.
The last Southern Line train leaves Britomart at 9.28pm, the last Onehunga Line train is at 9.45pm and the last Eastern Line train departs at 10.17pm. Those catching the Western Line can stick around the central city the longest - their last train leaves Britomart at 10.24pm.
