A disappointed Stuart Farquhar will continue in the javelin despite an underwhelming performance at the Commonwealth Games.
The 32-year-old was unable to replicate his silver medal from Delhi, finishing fifth in the final at Hampden Park this morning after producing only one throw he was happy with.
That was on his first attempt, recording 78.14, before finishing with five no-throws after deliberately stepping out of bounds shortly after the javelin left his hand.
Although upset with his efforts in Glasgow, Farquhar vowed to remain in top-level competition, desiring a more positive way to end his career.
"I'll keep going. I'm not going to stop yet," he said. "We'll see about [the Rio Olympics] - that's quite a few years away.
"But I'll definitely be looking forward to next year and trying to step it up and get myself out of this little bit of a low period."
Farquhar had no reason to think that low period would extend to today, throwing better in training than he had all year. Asked if he thought he had a throw of 82m in him - Kenya's Julius Yego took gold with 83.87m - the Hamilton-based athlete was unequivocal.
"I felt like I had bigger, more than that. If I did connect with one, yes, but I didn't and that left me in fifth.
"It's so disappointing in terms of my ability, that I knew I could've done better. It's hard."
