A ridge affects the top half of the North Island today, while a frontal rainband spreads across the lower half of the North Island. Another front over the South Island weakens and becomes slow moving. Cyclone Gita is expected to move east across the top of the South Island some time late Tuesday into Wednesday,then moves away to the east late Wednesday and on Thursday, followed by a ridge over the South Island.
