A young man is in hospital tonight after seriously injuring his buttocks and legs when he fell through glass at a home in Christchurch today.
The incident happened shortly after midday at a property on Karamu Street, in Riccarton, which is known for hosting a pre-party ahead of the University of Canterbury's annual Tea Party event.
A southern police communications spokesman confirmed to the Herald tonight that a man had suffered serious injuries to his buttocks and legs and as a result, would be "sitting down for a long time yet".
The spokesman said police had dealt with up to four people in relation to drunkenness at the festival, but "nothing too serious,'' he said.
The university's Tea Party gig is an annual event celebrating nearing the end of the school year.
This year included a number of activities at Ilam Fields - including a water slide, free food trucks, a foam tent and other circus rides, as well as a main music stage.
