Much to like apart from the price

What is it?
Audi's RS4 Avant, featuring a 4.2-litre V8 engine with 331kW at 8250rpm and 430Nm from 4000 to 6000rpm, four wheel drive and a sports diff.

You'll look like a Remuera worthy until you put your foot down to access neck-wrenching acceleration and a riotous soundtrack that only improves when you lift off to hear the feral cough on the overrun.

We like
Optional adaptive sports suspension's ability; individually adjusted engine, suspension, steering and stability to comfort, normal or sport. We also like the way the outside wheels get more torque to literally drive you round bends.

We loathe
The $154,000 price - plus the test car's $14,900 of extras. It feels pricey, but still...
