Former New Zealand mare Happyanunoit finished second-last in the $US750,000 ($1.8 million) Flower Bowl International in New York yesterday.
Happyanunoit was sent out the favourite for the group one race for fillies and mares, run over 1-1/4 miles (about 2000m) at Belmont, but could only finish fourth of the five runners. She was more than eight lengths from the winner.
Happyanunoit's rider Edgar Prado wondered if the track was too firm.
Prado said: "She might not have handled the track."
