Another day ...
Jay Silverheels, real name Harold J. Smith but forever known as the Lone Ranger's faithful movie and TV sidekick Tonto, died today in 1980. The son of a Mohawk chief, he was born on Six Nations Reservation in Ontario, Canada, in 1919. Before a comedian recommended acting, Silverheels was a wrestler, Golden Gloves boxer and Canadian lacrosse representative. He enjoyed memorising Shakespeare, but rarely got to say more than "me do, kemo sabe."
