Swapping over-aggression for smoothness, midget car racer Shayne Alach avoided post-race discussions with the Western Springs officials and celebrated an impressive feature race win.
Alach got the best of a mid-race battle with Carl Worboys, which saw the lead swap five times during a 25-lap main event that dodged swirling showers on Saturday night.
It was a contrast to Alach's season-opening effort the previous weekend when aggressive driving earned him exclusion.
"A lot of the problem last week was the car," Alach said. "I had a much easier car to drive this time. Every change we made last week was positive and we smoothed it out."
Worboys repeated his rapid opening-night run to the front, to again stake a strong claim to his first midget feature win.
While swapping the lead with Alach he lost touch after glancing off the pit wall, but continued to finish second, ahead of national champ Michael Kendall.
Six-time national sprint car champion Kerry Jones unveiled the potential of his new Harris chassis, with an impressive heat win.
The sprint car feature was led from start to finish by Graeme Drummond, ahead of a hectic battle for second between Hamilton's Tom Rusher, Jones, Pukekohe's Kerry Brocas and national champion Allan Wakeling (Henderson).
Jones made some good late race moves to briefly grab second before a clash with Brocas on the penultimate lap punctured his left-rear tyre and he slipped to fourth behind Drummond, Brocas and Rusher.
Exciting three-way battles between Bill Clarkson, Steven Currie and national champ Bryce Townsend provided the highlight of the TQ midget events.
Clarkson won both heats and broke the first track record of the season, and Currie won the feature.
