An email purporting to be from Netflix stating that prices are going up appears to be a phishing scam, the media streaming service says.
The email, which was received by a New Zealand customer, claimed that Netflix was increasing its price to $14.99 per month from December 22.
"When we previously raised prices, we kept your price the same. Your special pricing is now ending," says the email, from "the Netflix Team".
It comes from the address info@mailer.netflix.com.
"We're here to help," the email says. "Visit the Help Centre for more info or contact us."
The links accompanying the email appear to direct users to legitimate Netflix sites, as does the 0800 number.
However, a Netflix spokesman said the company had not announced any price changes that would affect New Zealand subscribers at this time.
Customers wanting to learn more about how to keep their personal information safe against phishing scams and other malicious activity could go to netflix.com/security or contact Netflix customer service directly.
Netflix currently charges New Zealand customers $11.99 for its basic package, $14.99 for its premium package and $18.99 for the premium service.
