A $39 one way fare to Houston advertised by Air New Zealand this morning literally was too good to be true.
The airline sent out an email this afternoon saying the fare was a genuine mistake.
"You may or may not have spotted a $39 one way fare to Houston this morning in our North & South America sale email and thought it was so cheap it just can't be right. You would be right," the company said.
The correct promotion is $500 off on return flights in the continent.
Air New Zealand told the Herald it was impossible for customers to book the fare, as the website displayed the correct fare.
At least one customer went in pursuit of the fares, complaining on the company's Facebook page that she couldn't find the $39 fare.
"Hey have been searching for a while to find the from $39 seats to Houston .... no luck ... what dates are these!" she posted.
Air New Zealand made a similar mistake in April when it advertised fares as low as $499 return from Auckland to Honolulu and $159 one way in an email to customers.
"You may or may not have spotted a $499 return fare [or $159 one way] to Honolulu this morning in our daily alerts email and thought it was so cheap it must be a late April Fools' joke," the airline said at the time.
"I guess we look the fool this time because it was a genuine mistake on our part and has now been corrected."
