Fallout from New Zealand's leaky building disaster continues.
Gareth Lewis of law firm Grimshaw & Co represented owners of apartments at 19 Fleet St in Newton, Auckland in a six-week High Court trial which ended this month.
The case related to an alleged failure of a cladding system, although the builder defended that. A decision is yet to be issued in the case which closed on March 13.
John Gray, president of the Home Owners & Buyers Association, said about 30 Christchurch members had leaky new houses.
But their privacy was paramount because they were in discussions with builders and in some cases their insurers which commissioned the new builds, he said.
"The strength in our members' negotiating position is that if they come to builders and insurers come to the party to remedy the issues then the settlement will be confidential. It will not be until any of our members is not able to reach a settlement and the work has not been done that they will be in a position to go public on their situation."
