A Bollywood star worth hundreds of millions of dollars has been revealed by liquidators as one of the few winners of a lavish but ultimately disastrous show at Vector Arena.
Aucklander Agastya Pesara organised the Temptation Reloaded show in October 2013 headlined by Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan.
Soon after the show, the company which organised it - Areddy Private - collapsed owning creditors more than $1 million.
Khan, described by the Los Angeles Times as perhaps "the world's biggest movie star" is estimated to be worth US$500m.
Liquidator Digby Noyce of RES Corporate Services, appointed to Areddy Private, confirmed in his latest report Khan was one of only a few creditors to receive payment.
The report said Khan was paid $365,688.65 in the days following the show, and other creditors - mostly members of Auckland's Indian community who advanced loans to cover advanced costs - have been left short more than $1m.
Noyce's first reports said unsecured creditors were owed $844,409, with and his second report released today adds a claim by Inland Revenue for unpaid tax of $311,285.92.
Noyce said there was evidence Pesara routed company funds through his personal bank accounts. The reports said the sole director and shareholder of Areddy had also left New Zealand following the liquidation and had been made bankrupt in May 2014.
Temptation Reloaded was described as a show featuring " a mix of pyrotechnics, visuals and costumes" , with a total cast of 110. The best seats at the show sold for $650 each.
