How is life at the top?
Life is always good when I'm working with a team of great people.
How are you coping with the increased public profile? I always think if we focus on doing our job properly then public scrutiny will be positive.
What's your top tip for being a successful leader?
Getting really competent, capable people who I respect working with me. It's about leading by example, being accountable and holding your people to account.
What's the biggest challenge you've faced in getting to the top?
In the property market, conditions are always the biggest challenge and the global financial crisis has certainly been the second most challenging period after the early 90s.
Who has inspired you in your career?
Malcolm McDougall (McDougall Reidy) and [the late] Lloyd Morrison both of whom I worked for at PFI.They encouraged me to be ambitious. James Darkins, whom I worked for at AMP, was an incredibly strategic thinker and Simon Moutter at the airport, who was really good at setting strategic objectives and creating an environment of accountability.
Who is your biggest supporter?
My wife, Morri.
What do you do to relax and unwind?
Taking time out with the family and anything in the water - swimming, surfing, scuba diving.
When you do take time out do you turn the phone off?
I certainly intend to.
