Wellington department store operator Kirkcaldie & Stains worked hard to increase profits on lower turnover during the economic downturn.
The firm yesterday reported a $1.024 million profit in the year to August 31, up 31.6 per cent on the $778,000 last year.
Operating surplus before tax rose 18.9 per cent to $1.53 million.
