The European arm of Canterbury Clothing has been put into administration.
Seventy-two of the 86 people working at the company's UK operation in Stockport have been made redundant. In addition, Canterbury's sponsorship contracts with rugby union and rugby league teams in the UK and Europe have been terminated.
Despite the redundancies, the division is still trading.
The administrators have pointed out that the rest of the Canterbury group, including Canterbury New Zealand is unaffected and continue to trade as usual.
Canterbury of New Zealand was founded in 1904 to make rugby jerseys for the All Blacks and has grown to be a world marketer of all types of sports performance clothing.
