There's life in dino-packed franchise Jurassic Park yet.

Director Steven Spielberg has revealed that he's hoping Jurassic Park IV will hit the big screen within the next couple of years.

Spielberg, currently on the promotional treadmill touting The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn, confirmed that plans are underway for the long-awaited sequel.

"The screenplay is being written right now by Mark Protosevich. I'm hoping that will come out in the next couple of years," Spielberg said in an interview with Empire.

"We have a good story. We have a better story for four than we had for three ..."

It was reported back in June that Spielberg was brainstorming ideas for another installment with Thor screenwriter Protosevich.

But actor Sam Neill, who played paleontologist Dr Alan Grant in the series, said he thought a follow-up to the third film from 2001 was unlikely.

"I think we've told the story. I think it's done," he told MTV.

"Stan Winston who made those beautiful dinosaurs died. So, no Stan, no Jurassic Park really ... [and author Michael] Crichton died too."

While filmmaker Joe Johnston, who directed Jurassic Park III, spilled that the mooted fourth installment had "a great story".

"There is a great story for the fourth one that I would be interested in getting involved with and it's nothing like the first three," he said. "It sort of takes the franchise off in a completely different direction, which is the only way I would want to get involved."

Meantime, fans of the franchise can get their mitts on the flicks in all their high-definition glory. The Jurassic Park trilogy has just dropped on Blu-ray. Mint.
