They say it's a dish best served cold. Or in Johnny Depp's case...
Depp finally has his revenge for the swipes cheeky comic Ricky Gervais levelled at the star during this year's Golden Globes.
Host Gervais famously let rip with a smattering of barbs during his opening monologue aimed at a string of Hollywood A-listers - including sticking it to Depp and co-star Angelina Jolie for their decidedly lackluster romantic thriller, The Tourist.
"It was a big year for 3D movies: Toy Story. Despicable Me. Tron. Seems like everything this year was three-dimensional - except the characters in The Tourist," quipped Gervais.
"I'd like to quash the rumours that the only reason The Tourist was nominated was so that the Hollywood Foreign Press can hang out with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. That is rubbish, that is not the only reason. They also accepted bribes," he concluded.
The camera then panned to Depp in the audience for his reaction:
Depp has since confronted Gervais about those snidey shots, and it turns out he's not willing to forgive and forget (completely fictional, of course. And all in the name of TV comedy).
The Rum Diary star brings on the laughs in a tongue-in-cheek promo for Gervais and Steven Merchant's new sitcom, Life's Too Short, starring Warwick Davis as the head of a talent agency for little people.
In the clip, Davis introduces a deadpan Depp to Gervais and Merchant, before Depp gives the comic a right royal dressing down.
"I actually remember him from the Golden Globes," remarks Depp, while flicking his cigarette ash into Gervais' glass of water. Filthy habit.
"How's it going?" enquires a squirming Gervais.
Depp replies, "I'm fine, man. Just doing another film that's going to make loads of money, probably a lot more money than any film you've ever made. And you?"
Gervais asks: "Have I done something to offend you?"
"What do you mean, like trashing me in front of like 200 million people," Depp replies, adding, "I actually got together with a few pals after the awards, and we wrote some jokes about you.
"I want you to know this, and I want you to carry this with you for the rest of your days: No one makes fun of Tim Allen on my watch, and gets away with it."
Gervais tweeted the promo yesterday, along with a message: "In fact, Johnny Depp was so offended by my Golden Globes jokes that he helped me shove a dwarf down a toilet."
Cop an eyeful of the visual here.
"This is why mankind is finished. Loads of people think the Johnny Depp clip is real," he wrote. "I kid you not. It is 100% scripted! Unbelievable."
Gold.
Life's Too Short will screen in the UK in November, and will bow on HBO in 2012.
