The Aussies have named Kane Williamson as the best visiting batsman on their pitches in the last 15 years.
It's high praise from the hosts who normally prefer to lavish praise on volumes of their own heroes instead of extolling the merits of any opponents and curiously, they don't give any reason why they think Williamson is better than Virat Kohli who has a similar average from double the innings.
The Daily Telegraph began by mentioning Australia had won 21 from 27 home series since the turn of the century before looking at those who have embellished their reputations down-under.
This is the paper's order:
Kane Williamson (four tests -469 runs at 67)
Alastair Cook (15 tests-1288 runs at 49.53)
Anil Kumble (10 tests -49 wickets at 37.73)
Michael Vaughan (five tests -633 runs at 63.30)
Graeme Smith (10 tests -748 runs at 39.36)
Dale Steyn (six tests -30 wickets at 22.56)
Kevin Petersen (15 tests-1144 runs at 45.76)
Rahul Dravid (16 tests -1188 runs at 41.64)
Chris Gayle (five tests-449 runs at 49.88)
Virat Kohli (eight tests -992 runs at 62)
They warned there will be more to come from Williamson when the third test starts at Adelaide tomorrow with all the talk about the international baptism of the pink ball.
"Four years ago as a precocious 21-year-old, he scored 72 runs as the hosts enjoyed success enticing some false shots outside off stump," the article said.
"But he has always possessed excellent technique and a wonderful eye and it's no surprise to see him stepping up a gear on this current trip. It's just a pity it's only a three-test series as he could break some scoring records."
