Kane Williamson is putting in the hard yards to become an effective spin bowler for the Black Caps.
Williamson was banned from bowling his occasional off-spinners in international cricket last month, with the ICC deeming that his elbow extension exceeds the 15 degrees of tolerance.
Currently playing for Yorkshire in English County Cricket, it's understood Williamson has passed a couple of initial tests on his action.
He said he's been determined to make the required improvements.
"It's what I want to do, and I think it's important for the team," he said.
"It's always nice to have another option up your sleeve and that's a role that I enjoy."
Williamson is hopeful an official test isn't too far off, with dry test runs given beforehand to give him an idea of where he's at.
He will link up this week with his Northern Knights teammates ahead of the T20 Champions League in India.
