A Gate Pa woman has been hospitalised after a dog allegedly bit her arm.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, resulted in two dogs being impounded after dog control staff and police visited the scene.
According to police, the incident occurred during a dispute between neighbours and resulted in one of them being treated at Tauranga Hospital and discharged.
A communications spokesperson said police attended a disorder incident at a Sherson St property at 6.40pm.
"There was a verbal exchange between two female neighbours which escalated into a physical altercation."
During the struggle one woman's dog allegedly jumped up and bit the other woman on the arm, leaving three small puncture wounds in her right forearm, the spokesperson said.
Animal control were notified of the incident.
A Tauranga City Council spokesperson said the exact circumstances of the incident were still being investigated but two dogs - a mastiff and bull terrier - had been impounded.
The council was still waiting for the dogs' owner to make contact after the patient lodged a formal written complaint on Tuesday, the spokesperson said.
Neither the complainant nor the owner of the dogs could be located when the Bay of Plenty Times visited the street yesterday.
