The Rotorua tennis community have served up plenty of success at the 2017 New Zealand tennis teams event.
At the annual Easter weekend competition in Whangarei the Bay of Plenty men's 35 plus age group side made up of local players Shaun Tamai and James Wilce plus Jason Helms from Tauranga and Richard Kidd beat Waikato in the final 2-0 yesterday. Tamai and Helms beat Julian Main and Adam Whauwhau 6-0 6-0 while the second pairing of Wilce and Kidd won 6-1, 6-1 against Justin Oosterveen and Mark Rodriguez.
"We dominated the points by serving and volleying which was solid throughout the whole tournament," said Tamai. "Return of serves were tight, which made it easier to capitalise on points."
To reach the final the Rotorua side were unbeaten after they won 2-0 against Auckland North Harbour and Kapi Mana Wellington. The team then followed this up with a 3-1 win over Northland and South Auckland.
The Rotorua-Taupo Eastern Bay of Plenty women's team also celebrated success after they won the 60 plus age division.
