A batting blitzkrieg from Eves Realty Greerton allrounder Brett Hampton was to no avail as Dawson Insurance Eastern Pirates chased down 206 to grab victory in a Williams Cup match played at Pemberton Park on Saturday.
Greerton were in trouble at 40/4 when Hampton arrived at the crease. A whirlwind 109 that included eight sixes and seven boundaries sent the Rotorua fielders into overdrive.
However, a determined 76 from Eastern Pirates opener Mark Chapman led the way for his sides three-wicket win. Captain James McMillan (42) combined with Chapman to produce a match-winning partnership.
James Birchall was the only Greerton bowler to trouble the visitors batsmen, taking four wickets.
Competition leaders Platinum Pacific Reclad Mount Maunganui made short work of former Baywide heavyweight iTCo Central, at Blake Park.
The Rotorua visitors came and went in quick succession at the batting crease, being rolled for just 84 runs. Only Peter Wood (30) and Ben Watkinson (21) showed any defiance with the bat.
The Mount bowlers all shared in the spoils, with Jason Donnelly taking two wickets at no cost. Tony Goodin, Daniel Hill, Ross Chadwick and Dale Swan all took two relatively cheap wickets apiece.
The Mount run chase was achieved without the loss of a wicket. Mount skipper Sheldon Kearns posted an unbeaten 45, with Peter Drysdale also there at the end with 34 not out.
Defending Williams Cup titleholders Element IMF Cadets had little trouble getting past Ultimate Motor Group Te Puke, at the Te Puke Domain. Batting first Te Puke showed little resistance being dismissed for 108, with Seth Adamson providing his sides top score of 27.
Northern Knights allrounder Jono Boult, unwanted for the Twenty20 team, and Ben Christensen did the damage with ball for Cadets, taking four wickets each.
Cadets strolled to a nine-wicket win with Nick Evemy (47no) and Matthew Drake (42no) putting together a winning partnership.
