City Utd in fifth
Tauranga City United are back to fifth equal in the Northern League first division after a 3-2 win over North Shore United in Auckland on Saturday.
In a game that saw all the scoring take place in the first half, Alex Luiten and Ben Wall were responsible for Shore's strikes, while Shaun Goldsbury and Reece Edmonds netted in a five-minute spell just before the half-hour mark for Tauranga.
City clinched the points thanks to an own goal just before the interval. Tauranga are at home this weekend to Fencibles (Links Ave at 2.30pm), who sit one win below them in the league.
North Force and Ellerslie continued on their winning way on Saturday as the top four teams in the grading round clashed.
North Force handed Western Springs their first loss of the season 2-0 while Ellerslie were 4-0 winners over Hibiscus Coast.
Mt Albert-Ponsonby jumped to third in the league with a 2-0 win at home to Birkenhead United while an early goal was enough to secure a 1-0 victory for Fencibles United over Matamata Swifts.
Mangere United downed Papakura City 4-1 with Pukekohe denied a rare league win by an injury-time equaliser at Cambridge.
Scorers:
North Force 2 (Scott Burgess, Keegan Baddely) Western Springs 0. HT: 1-0.

Otorohanga unbeaten
Otorohanga defeated Hamilton Wanderers 3-1 to
retain their unbeaten record and extend their lead in
the Waikato-Bay of Plenty Federation division one
league, while Claudelands Rovers drew 1-1 with Finn
MacCahuls Taupo to move into outright second a
point ahead of Tauranga Boys' College.
Tauranga Boys beat Melville United 2-1, Te Awamutu
downed Ngaruawahia 3-2, Whakatane Town defeated
Rotorua United 3-0 and IPC Te Puke were beaten 5-3
by Otumoetai.
For Rotorua United, supporters watching their team is
like watching reruns of old movies. The cast may
change from week to week, but the script never
changes. United once again dominated possession
and territory against Whakatane Town but it was the
visitors who took the points, playing much of the game
a man short after Clinton Petersen was red carded by
referee David Grey for deliberate hand ball.
Otumoetai arrived at Litt Park looking for their first win
against unbeaten Te Puke knowing they would be
playing in front of passionate and vocal home
supporters.
There was always going to be an edge to this game
and when Otumoetai led 3-1 the intensity was sure to
increase.
Te Puke lost centre back Nick Barraclough with a
hamstring injury while Otumoetai's Michael Green was
taken to hospital after having his leg broken. Te Puke
battled back to equalise at 3-3 but it was the visitors
who finished better to win 5-3.
In division two action Ngongotaha and AFC Fury
remain unbeaten after three games. Ngongotaha
defeated Hamilton North 4-0 while Fury were
untroubled to thump Cambridge 6-1.
Rotorua United were put to the sword by Tauranga
City, losing 8-2, and Kawerau defeated Matamata to
record their first win.
Hockey stars hit road
Eight Tauranga masters hockey players will be feeling
the aches and pains over the next week after leaving
for Australia and the Transtasman Cup in Newcastle
from May 5-8.
Veronica Romagnoli will play in goal for the women's
40+ team. She is the only one of the masters group
still playing Intercity premier hockey.
Sue Furmage and Sandra Kindley are in the 45+ side,
Brenda Telfer, Liz Spratt and Jenny Harrington in 50+
and Barbara Northey and Jill Tran Van in 55+ women.
Battle in Intercity
Otumoetai have grabbed the spoils into the Midlands
men's Intercity hockey derby clash with Tauranga Old
Boys' at the Tauranga Hockey Centre in a game that
failed to reach significant heights in skill or intensity.
Stu Sutherland 2, Manu Singh and Jonothan
Simmonds scored for Otumoetai, who took
advantage of a disjointed Old Boys' to rattle in three
field goals in the first half-hour.
Tauranga Old Boys' hit back in the second half through
Brad McKenzie and Aaron McNabb, with Logan
Gemming prominent at centre-half. Old Boys gave
notice that with more practice they could be a tougher
opponent as the season progresses.
Sutherland gave an accomplished display in the
Otumoetai midfield.
Mt Maunganui men went down 1-0 to Onewhero-
Pukekohe, with the absence of a go-to man costing
them in front of goal.
Pukekohe Indians drew 5-5 with Hamilton Old Boys
while Thames Valley lashed eight past Rotorua Indians
and Waikato University were far too slick for Intercity
newcomers Te Awamutu.
Several games, including Otumoetai women's clash
with Onewhero, were deferred because of the national
under-21 tournament.
Weekend results:
Premier Men:
Otumoetai 4 (Stu Sutherland 2, Manu Singh, Jonothan
