Tauranga has been identified by the Government as a priority city for the development of a Housing Accord under the Housing Accords and Special Housing Areas Act 2013.
The intent of a Housing Accord is to increase the number of new sites and dwellings, and make housing more accessible and affordable.
Tauranga City Council said it was working with the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment on the details of the Tauranga Housing Accord and it was anticipated that it would be signed by the council and the Minister of Housing in August 2014.
Once the Accord has been signed, Tauranga City Council said it would have the ability to recommend Special Housing Areas to the Minister of Housing. Special Housing Areas will be areas where the more permissive resource consenting powers of the Act can be used.
More information about the Tauranga Housing Accord is available at the council's website. People can have their say at haveyoursay@tauranga.govt.nz by Friday, August 1, 2014.
