Auckland has confirmed it will host a homecoming celebration with Emirates Team New Zealand next Thursday, but there is no date for Tauranga's parade yet.
Downtown Tauranga spokeswoman Sally Cooke wants the council to advocate for a parade with the whole team - including local star Peter Burling - and the Auld Mug itself.
"Most cities will be vying for a parade and Tauranga should be putting its hand up to try and get the whole team here, and the Cup."
As soon as a date was confirmed, downtown retailers could be mobilised to create a festive and celebratory atmosphere to welcome the team, she said.
Mayor Greg Brownless said he would love to get the whole team and the Cup in Tauranga, but he would be happy enough with Burling and other Bay people in the wider team.
The council had been in touch with Emirates Team New Zealand, but Mr Brownless said it might be a while before a date could be scheduled.
"I imagine they are in huge demand."
A weekend or school holidays date would be ideal so children could come along.
"Everybody I talk to wants to know about the parade," Mr Brownless said.
"I can't wait to welcome our local champ back and, if possible, the team and the Cup."
Second Ave company directors Jenny and Stephen Woolley were quick off the mark to publically celebrate the team's win.
Their Kiwis Can Fly sign was in the window of their Computastyle Signs store hours after Tuesday's win.
Mrs Woolley said they had been doing window displays of the score throughout the final, and customers had really enjoyed it.
She said they were "extremely excited" about the win, and could not wait to welcome Burling and his family, and the rest of the team, to Tauranga.
"It would be great if people put a whole lot of signs and displays out, so they can see how much the town has been behind them."
Driving past displays celebrating the win, such as the message board outside Tauranga Boys' College, made her feel proud of how much the Bay people in the team had achieved, she said.
