Funding for the Bay of Plenty's home support services had more than doubled since 2009.
Home support services help those recovering from surgery or support elderly residents continue live at home.
Since 2008/2009 the Bay of Plenty District Health Board has received 104 per cent more funding, increasing it from $14.3 million to $29.26 million in 2016/17.
The increase of $14.96 million has allowed the DHB to put more emphasis on providing more personalised home help support services, which included personal care and household chores.
Health Minister Jonathon Coleman said over the same period the number of Bay of Plenty residents receiving home support services had risen from 4343 to 5237 clients this year - a 20 per cent increase.
"This increase in access to home support services is supported by the $202 million funding increase Bay of Plenty DHB has received over the last eight years.
It will receive an extra $32 million in new money this year, taking the DHB's total funding to $718 million for 2016/17.
