The Bay of Plenty's kiwifruit and avocado crops appear to have escaped damage from the past week's heavy rain and wind.
Kiwifruit exporting organisation Zespri said while there had been reports of a couple of hectares being badly damaged in the Coromandel area, there were no damage reports for the Bay of Plenty.
New Zealand Kiwifruit Growers Inc said it was aware of some damage to orchards in the Coromandel/Waihi area, but would not be able to assess the extent of the damage until they had dried out. The kiwifruit harvest is expected to get underway this month.
The local avocado industry also seems to have survived unscathed.
The new 2017 crop is on the trees, but Avocado NZ chief executive Jen Scoular said she had not had any reports of specific damage events.
