The Bay Oval was jam-packed with deckchairs and fans who had travelled near and far to support the Black Caps in their third Twenty20 clash with Bangladesh today.
Despite high winds in the Bay on Saturday, there was calm, sunny weather at the Mount Maunganui venue with temperatures hitting about 23C in Tauranga, according to Metservice.
"The Bangladeshis are out-cheering us," was heard over the commentary, which was followed with even louder cheers from areas featuring green-shirted Bangladesh fans.
Cheers rang out over the oval every once in a while as a relatively quite crowd concentrated on the game.
Fans stood and clapped when local Kane Williamson left the pitch.
Ryan Parker, 7, and Alex Garrett, 11, keen cricketers themselves, wore their Black Caps shirts with pride at the game.
Alex, who attended Pongakawa School, received his shirt for Christmas and was excited to be supporting the Black Caps.
Ryan, who played for the Mount Maunganui Cricket Club said he attended the second Black Caps v Bangladesh T20 game on Friday.
The Tahatai Coast School pupil's favourite part was when the players hit a six.
He had just been given a new bat which he hoped to collect some signatures on after the game.
Papamoa mother Beth Thomas was at her first Black Caps game.
"It's such a festive atmosphere. It astounds me that so many people come out to watch.
She said the "laidback" feeling at the game was "great".
"The kids just love it.
"Both of my sons play cricket, my eldest would play almost all day if he could."
Black Caps supporter Chris Taylor had travelled from Auckland to catch the second and third Twenty20 Internationals.
"It's worth the trip down," he said.
