Papamoa couple Harpreet Singh-Pattar and Sharandeep Kaur have more reasons than most to celebrate after welcoming the Bay's first New Year's Day baby.
The first-time parents said they were in the midst of New Year's Eve celebrations with other family members at their home when Ms Kaur went into labour at 3am yesterday.
Their son was born in Tauranga Hospital at midday - nine days earlier than his expected birth date.
The delighted couple said the birth also coincided with their first wedding anniversary yesterday. They married in India on January 1, 2016.
Ms Kaur, 23, said that although she was a bit tired, they could not be happier with the birth of their son, who weighs in at 3245g.
"He is a beautiful baby, I am very, very, happy," she said.
Proud dad Harpreet Singh-Pattar, 25, said to have their son born on New Year's Day and on same day as his wedding anniversary was extra special.
"I am very grateful and very happy," Mr Singh-Pattar said.
The couple, who both work in the local kiwifruit industry, said when it came to selecting a name for their son, they would seek help from their local temple.
Ms Kaur said that in few weeks' time they would travel back to India to visit her in-laws armed with two to three names and would seek guidance from family before making the final decision.
Ms Kaur's mother, Balvir Kaur, said she and husband Ranjeet Singh were delighted.
"Everyone is so happy, we couldn't more pleased with two new babies in the family."
Ms Kaur said her older sister Jasmin's son Tejas was born in Tauranga Hospital six weeks ago.
