First Mortgage Trust has given the Tauranga Community Foodbank $2000 as part of the Bay of Plenty Times Christmas Appeal.
Trust chief executive officer Tony Kinzett made the donation last week .
"It's a special time of year and not everybody is as fortunate as you and I," he said. "If we can do a little bit to help others, it's not going to change the world, but if we can do our part we are pleased to do so."
Mr Kinzett said the foodbank was a great cause and he liked to support the local community.
The trust made a similar donation last year and also gave the organisation a refrigerator, he said.
Mr Kinzett urged people to help the foodbank if they were in a position to do so.
It was great when businesses donated food, but cash was extremely helpful because it allowed the foodbank to balance the food on offer.
Mr Kinzett said people only had to drive around Tauranga to see the need in the community.
"However, Christmas is a special day, so let's all do a little bit to make it more special for somebody else."
The Bay of Plenty Times Christmas Appeal had raised $14,525 as of Friday.
