Mahe Drysdale has eased into the Rio Olympic finals for the rowing men's single skulls, after placing first in the semi finals overnight.

Drysdale will compete for gold in the early hours of Sunday.

The former Tauranga Boys' College pupil won gold at the London 2012 games, and Bronze at the Beijing 2008 games.
