Emergency services are responding to reports of an assault at Bayfair Shopping Centre.

Police and ambulance staff are at the scene.

A police spokeswoman said police were called about 4.30pm and initial reports were that a man had assaulted another man.

Reports were that one of the men was bleeding from a cut above the eye, she said.

A reporter at Bayfair said there was a man on the ground who appeared to be unconscious.

Bayfair Shopping Centre manager Steve Ellingford said there had been an incident but he was unable to comment on what had happened because it was a police matter.
