The woman hit by a car on State Highway 2 last weeks remains in a critical condition in Waikato Hospital this afternoon.
The 26-year-old woman had been walking along the highway, near Plummers Point Rd north of Tauranga, when she was struck late on Thursday night.
The woman was taken to Tauranga Hospital before being flown to Waikato Hospital later that night for further treatment.
Police were yet to find out what the woman had been doing when she was hit.
The driver stopped at the scene and has been talking with police.
The highway was closed for about four hours as Serious Crash Unit investigators and ambulance staff worked to clear the crash site.
"Police arrived very shortly after the crash occurred. A passing police patrol stopped and assisted at the scene," head of Western Bay of Plenty road policing Senior Sergeant Ian Campion said.
The stretch of road had been identified as a "high risk" area set to benefit from a $73 million revamp of Bay of Plenty's and Waikato's most dangerous roads.
