Motorcycle crash on SH33

Updated: The motorcycle rider has been moved to a status one and has arrived to Tauranga hospital.

A reporter at the scene said State Highway 33 was closed at the roundabout where the Tauranga Eastern Link ended

A north communications spokesman said diversions were in place. Motorists could use Wilson Rd South as a detour around the crash scene.

6.48pm: A person has been taken to hospital after a collision involving a car and a motorbike.

Fire communications shift manager Scott Osmond said emergency services were called to the corner of McKenzie Rd and State Highway 33 at 6.05pm where there had been a collision between a car and motorbike.

Ambulance staff and police were also in attendance.

A spokesperson at police north communications said the motorcyclist was on the way to Tauranga hospital as a status two but her condition could be deteriorating.

He said the Serious Crash Unit had arrived on the scene.

It is understood the road is closed.
