Western parts of the country have received a bit of a drenching this morning as heavy falls passed over the country for a few hours this morning.
A WeatherWatch report indicated Taranaki bore the brunt of the wet weather, though other parts of the Western coast also received a bit of rain.
The Nelson region, Taranaki, Waitomo and King Country were all exposed to isolated heavy showers, though was also a few dry sunny spells in between each outpouring of rain.
WeatherWatch head analyst Philip Duncan said the current bursts of downpours were expected to ease into the afternoon.
More rain or showers were still likely in Taranaki and other western areas but were expected to clear overnight.
He said further north, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Coromandel Peninsula and Northland showers were also expected, with a mix of drizzle, dry spells and isolated heavier downpours that are expected to fizzle out as the cooler south west change moves in.
A few isolated thunderstorms were still expected as a result of the warm/cool change moving through the country.
