Almost a thousand children hit Pilot Bay today for the Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids Tryathlon.

Despite the weather, all the children seemed to be having fun as they entered the water for the swimming event, then got out and raced along The Mall on their bicycles, before hitting the road for the run.

Parents and supporters of the athletes were on the sidelines cheering for all the children as they raced by.

Sports stars Valerie Adams, Cameron Brown, Sarah Goss and Tri NZ High Performance Squad Member Hamish Miller greeted the children at the finish line to award them their participation medals.
