A teenage girl scout who suffered a bad injury to her leg yesterday was flown to Tauranga Hospital.

The 17-year-old was part of a tramping scout group when she tripped on a tree root in the Kaimai Range, near Te Poi, about 6.30pm.

The Tauranga based Trustpower TECT Rescue helicopter was dispatched to pick the teen up and transported her to hospital.

Land Search & Rescue found the teen and carried her to a place where she could be picked up.

Paramedics stablised her at the scene before she was flown to hospital for further treatment.

The rescue helicopter was called due to the terrain and time to get her to hospital.
