A Tauranga midwife and mother of two has just won a dream trip to Disneyland.
Averil Hudson, 37, said she felt like "the luckiest person in the world" after winning a $14,000 holiday package prize for four people after entering The Hits nationwide lucky listener draw competition run in conjunction with Sky TV.
The prize includes return flights for four to Los Angeles with Air New Zealand, five nights at Disneyland Hotel, including the exclusive magical first hour in the park, four five-day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper tickets, and a fun-filled character breakfast for the whole family.
Mrs Hudson said neither her husband Andy Hudson, who works as a barman at Tauranga Citizens Club, or her children Griffin, 10, or daughter Aurora, 5, have been there before.
"I visited Disneyland when I was 19 during an overseas stop-over and had always thought it would be fantastic place to bring my children one day. It is the most amazing prize, especially because we have school-aged children. My kids are so excited," she said.
Mrs Hudson said on the back of the bathroom door was a poster of the bucket list trips she and her husband want to take and that included taking their children to Disneyland.
"We have been saving for about four years and it never looked like we would ever get there, especially after receiving my latest tax bill and then this lands in our lap. I feel like the luckiest person in the world and don't know what I have done to deserve this," she said.
The Hits brand engagement manager Ben Humphrey said the competition ran on all The Hits network radio channels the past two weeks and tens of thousands of listeners rang in.
"It's a dream prize for any family and we're delighted it has gone to a Tauranga family with children.
"The winner's reaction on air was just priceless, she was in tears when Polly and Grant phoned her," he said.
The prize is worth about $14,000, he said. The Hits Tauranga radio DJ Will Johnston said he phoned Mrs Hudson to congratulate her on the good news but only spoke briefly as she was on her way to deliver a baby.
Mr Johnston said everybody who entered the nationwide competition was deserving but felt it meant "a little bit more" for the Hudson family.
"It's nice to get a winner from little old Tauranga," he said.
