The Bay of Plenty will be home to the country's most sustainable and energy efficient house.
A house under construction in Papamoa has just become the first in the country to achieve the highest possible rating of 10 Homestar.
Homestar is the independent system that rates scale of 1-10 the health, comfort and efficiency of New Zealand homes.
Chief Executive of the New Zealand Green Building Council Alex Cutler said in a statement this is a landmark moment for the New Zealand building industry - and an indication of the growing interest in healthy, energy-efficient homes.
"Since Homestar was introduced in 2010, we've been looking forward to seeing who would be the first to score 10 out of 10," Ms Cutler said.
Designed and built by the Tauranga-based Belvedere Group, the Papamoa house is part of a range of homes designed to be sustainable and cost-effective, through minimising waste and maximising passive design.
The 230 sqm showhome in Papamoa's Palm Springs is due for completion in July.
