Mount Maunganui's Tim Burgess has won the industrial division of the regional heats of the Master Electricians Challenge.
He is now waiting to hear if he has reached the national finals of the country's toughest contests for apprentice electricians.
The competition, in its 14th year, aims to find New Zealand's top electrical apprentices.
About 100 apprentices are taking part in seven regional heats.

The top 10 will go on to the two-day final at Hamilton's Claudlands Event Centre on May 27-28.
