Bay of Plenty patients received 9326 elective surgeries last year, compared to 6940 in 2008, a 34 per cent increase.
Health Minister Jonathan Coleman said more Bay of Plenty District Health Board patients were receiving the elective surgeries they needed compared to six years ago.
"Over the last six years an extra 10,751 Bay of Plenty residents have benefited from elective surgery, compared to the level of surgeries completed under the previous Government.
"The latest health target results show that Bay of Plenty Distraict Health Board has delivered a high number of elective surgeries, surpassing the 100 per cent target by 12 per cent.
"Bay of Plenty DHB's funding has increased by $127 million over the last six years. This year's funding, including the new money for elective surgery, will be announced in the budget.
"This Government inherited a wasteful and inefficient system which did not deliver what New Zealanders required.
"In contrast, we have set clear health targets and lifted elective surgeries nationwide by 35 per cent, from 122,838 in 2008, to 165,611 in 2014."
