Papamoa Unlimited has upped the ante following the success of its inaugural Christmas parade and plans to hold three more community events.
Deputy chairman David Hill said the retailers association was using the $25,000 a year targeted rate that Tauranga City Council approved in 2014 to promote the suburb.
A Teddy Bears' picnic on March 28 would kickstart activities followed by a winter festival with polar swim in June and horse racing on the beach. Support from the community and businesses had been heartening, he said.
"Everybody has been waiting for a co-ordinated voice from Papamoa and now we have got it. We are working towards four iconic events for Papamoa ... those won't happen over night so we have taken the long view, let's just build up slowly."
"The targeted rate gave us the opportunity to test and measure what residents want."
Networking with other groups who held events in the community including the Little Big Markets and Dinner In the Domain was another focus.
While it had also thrown its support behind the 25th Tauranga Ulysses Easter Egg and Toy Run, which would start in the suburb for the first time on March 22.
Tauranga Ulysses Motorcycle Club president Marius Swanepoer said he expected up to 300 bikes on the day and it was fantastic to be welcomed by the Papamoa community after transferring from Mount Maunganui.
Toys would be collected for children at the Tauranga Hospital and donations gifted to the TECT Rescue Helicopter and St John.
Last year it raised $1000 for TECT and $500 for St John.
Mr Swanepoer said it was rewarding to see "the little kids getting all these presents" and being able to help out worthwhile organisations.
Papamoa Unlimited events manager Kate Percy said they were keen to help the motorcycle mlub and local retailers had come on board and gifted toys and the Papamoa Plaza was putting on a barbecue for riders.
On Tuesday night ANZ Papamoa's Angela Holman was voted in as the new chairperson and she said "I am really excited as there is so much growth happening and it's great to be part of that."
