Otumoetai Intermediate's 5th Element band have claimed third place in the 2014 Rockshop Bandquest nationals.
The band's guitarist Haritoa Chelsey also won the award for "Killer Guitarist".
Jared Wrennall from Steriogram was one of the judges and commended the Tauranga band on the skill required for their four part harmonies.
The band won credit with NZ Rockshops to the value of $500 for their school music department.
Bandquest was in its fourth year as the younger sibling of Smokefreerockquest, and attracted over 160 keen entrants who either competed at venues in ten regions around the country or online.
It was for bands of two or more members, from intermediate or primary schools, who played a short set of covers or original songs, with a focus on performance skills.
