Registrations are coming in thick and fast for this year's Crazy Hat Walk but organisers are calling for more people to get involved.
Waikato Bay of Plenty Cancer Society is holding the Crazy Hat Walk on November 2.
The 3.4km event will start at 10am and will wind its way around the base of Mauao, taking the average walker 45 minutes to complete.
It will cost $10 to enter and participants are encouraged to set a fundraising goal and raise at least $100 for the Cancer Society. Participants are also encouraged to create a crazy hat to wear on the day.
Spokeswoman Rachael Mounsey said the society hoped the walk would raise awareness of melanoma and unite the Bay community in the fight against skin cancer.
Ms Mounsey said registrations were going well but to create the best, colourful and fun crazy hat atmosphere, she would like many more people to get involved.
Ms Mounsey said hats protected people from the sun's harmful rays and from skin cancer.
Prizes, refreshments and information will be provided for people taking part on the day of the Crazy Hat Walk.
"We are also running a promotion for the month of September where anyone who registers using the special promotional code CHW2014 can register for half price, so $5 instead of $10, Ms Mounsey said.
